DAYS 26-28: CHOBE NATIONAL PARK. Our game drive unfortunately cannot compare to the Masai Mara, the Serengeti, and the Ngorongoro crater. but it is enjoyable and we drive through a massive herd of elephants. In the afternoon, we take a sunset cruise down the Chobe to observe hippos and elephants swimming.

DAYS 29-30: OKAVANGO DELTA. We spend our first night at a proper bush camp, which is a clearing in the bush with no running water. We arrived in mokoros; the water was about 3 feet deep and we coasted through the reeds poled by a local named Monika. Sunset on the delta speaks for itself. A plane ride allowed us to observe the magnitude of the Delta and a herd of over 700 elephants.

DAY 31: BUSHMEN IN THE KALAHARI. When we disembark at Ghanzi, in the western end of the Kalahari, San children waiting outside greet me enthusiastically, more so than my fellow travelers. I realize later we share the same facial proportions; very exciting! We take a bushwalk with the San, and they show us the plants used for hundreds of years for gastrointestinal issues, soap, and even birth control.
